July 1, 2007: We Meet

Despite having a number of friends in common over the years, Glen and Carolyn ended up meeting through Match.com. We met over coffee at Espresso Roma on Hopkins Ave in Berkeley on July 1st, 2007. We had two coffees each, but still weren't done talking, so we walked around North Berkeley for several hours. There was a second date (a bug-filled but nonetheless enjoyable hike around Jewel Lake in Tilden Park), then a third date (Dinner at À Côté in Rockridge), and then we stopped counting.

March 9, 2008: We Move in Together

Later that summer, Carolyn bought a Victorian duplex in Alameda with a long time college friend (and her husband). With an inkling that it would likely be his future home, Glen helped remodel the kitchen and bathroom. Though we found the process stressful at times, we discovered how well we worked together and how much we both liked stripes.

Months later, when it had become clear that spending alternate evenings at one another's houses, in addition to being a waste of gas, was hard on our cats, we decided to move in together. You know, for the kitties. This was made easier by the fact that we had already purchased matching dressers in the bedroom. So on March 9th, 2008, the many hours Glen spent on the house were officially worth it.

November 16, 2009: We Get Engaged

We liked living together, it turned out, so we kept doing it. Over the next year and a half we continued to make modest improvements to the house and learning about life together. We traveled together to a bunch of National Parks, State Parks, hometowns, and to Hawaii. At some point over the course of that time, it became fairly obvious to us that we wanted to spend our lives together and we should make it official. On November 16th, 2009, on bended knee in the very kitchen we built together, Glen proposed to Carolyn, presenting what was certainly the largest and most brightly lit ring available that day at Party City.

September 18, 2010: We Get Married

The real ring was purchased about a month later, a star sapphire with teardrop side sapphires in recycled palladium. We had a wedding to plan! We knew we wanted the wedding to be in alignment with who we are. In our daily lives we do the best we can to conserve energy, reduce waste, and save water. It seemed only natural that we would also have a "green" wedding. We hope you'll be able to join us, and we hope everyone has as good a time as we have these past few years.
